Why are There Universal RemotesUniversal Remotes for TV

Universal Remotes are a great resource for people who want to unify their viewing experience and remove some clutter in a clean area. Most people love them; nobody ever seems to know how to get full functionality out of them. So what is it about universal remotes and why are there so many remotes in general?

Brief History (Skip me!) – In 1985, the first universal remote was created through Magnavox, by Phillips. The idea was that so many people were losing their remotes to their TV’s and needed to get a new one, but they liked the remote so much they wanted to keep it. So what Phillips did was program every t.v. from the last 10-30 years into this remote so you could insert the information and program it to any T.V.

So initially, universal remotes were created solely because there were so many T.V’s in commission and too many different styles of remotes. But now, we could only be so lucky to have just one remote.
